Planet Fitness On 86th Street Is Now Open

The no-frills gym Planet Fitness opened the doors to its 2007 86th Street location on Monday, followed by a flock of members who eager to fill the tiered workout space.

We first told you Planet Fitness was headed to the neighborhood in January, when the aggressively expanding company announced that it had signed a 15-year lease on the property. The location features a 14,000-square-foot first floor, overlooked by a 4,000-square-foot mezzanine.

Planet Fitness is one of several new gym franchises that, like Blink, are spreading throughout New York City, offering low-cost membership and few benefits beyond access to equipment.

Prior to Planet Fitness, a Rite Aid occupied the same storefront.
