Places to Warm Up in Ditmas Park

Thermometer: COLD!

Baby it’s cold outside! As we bundle up against some of the coldest daytime temperatures we’ve seen since 2010, the city has opened warming centers, but the two in Brooklyn are a bit of a hike, in Bushwick and Canarsie. So where can you warm up in our area? These senior centers are open today and tomorrow from 9am-4pm:

Dorchester Senior Center, 1419 Dorchester Rd at Marlborough
Fort Greene Hazel Brooks Senior Center, 951 Ocean Avenue at Ditmas
Senior Citizens League of Flatbush Senior Center, 550 Ocean Pkwy, btwn Ditmas/Ave F
Brookdale Senior Citizens Center, 817 Ave H at E 9th

Also, we have many libraries in the area that are all open today:

Cortelyou Library, 1305 Cortelyou Road, open today until 8pm
Flatbush Library, 22 Linden Blvd, open today until 6pm
Kensington Library, 4207 18th Ave, open today until 6pm
Midwood Library, 975 East 16th St, open today until 6pm
Windsor Terrace Library, 160 E 5th St, open today until 8pm

Between October 1 and May 31, building owners are required to keep the indoor temperature at 68 degrees or more between 6am and 10pm if the outdoor temp drops below 55, and 55 degrees or more between 10pm and 6am if the outdoor temp is below 40. If you experience problems with your heat in your home, and if you are having trouble resolving the issue with your landlord, managing agent, or superintendent, you should report it to 311.
