Man Rushed To Hospital After A Fire At 910 McDonald Avenue

A man was just rushed to the hospital in critical condition following a fire in a commercial building at 910 McDonald Avenue, the FDNY told us.

Firefighters responded to what they said was a small blaze at 1:39 this afternoon and that the fire victim was removed by EMS and transported to Maimonides Medical Center. The fire has now been extinguished.

“There really wasn’t much fire,” the spokeswoman told us.

The FDNY did not say what caused the blaze and said there is an “ongoing investigation” into the matter. According to a photographer on scene, the area is now a crime scene and has been blocked off to traffic.

ABC 7 reported that the fire victim was “working with chemicals, possibly making drugs, when some sort of explosion happened.” According to the news outlet, witnesses saw the man run across the street while on fire when “several Good Samaritans jumped in to lend a life-saving hand.”

From the ABC 7 report:

“I hung up the phone and I started chasing him,” passerby Alex Mayer said. “And I’m like, ‘Drop and roll! Drop and roll!’ I caught up with a half block up, when he finally dropped.”
“He dropped on his side to roll, but he was still on fire,” the truck driver, Claude, said. “And I took the fire extinguisher out of the truck and I sprayed him…It put the fire out.”
