Permits Filed For Six-Story Apartment Building In Gravesend By Controversial Scarano Realty
The strip of Avenue U between McDonald Avenue and West Street is set to get its tallest building yet, according to applications filed with the Department of Buildings on Tuesday.
The controversial, Brooklyn-based developer Scarano Realty is seeking a permit to construct a six-story building at 326 Avenue U in Gravesend, Yimby first reported.
The mixed use structure will total 11,661 square feet and include 10 residential units, with commercial space in the cellar. Residents will enjoy amenities including 20 bicycle parking spaces, a recreation room, roof terrace and elevator.
A short walk from the Avenue U F train stop, the new building’s location sits between the single-level Gravesend Station Post Office and a stretch of two-story mixed use buildings. The property is currently one of many empty lots on the block that appear to be used as parking for adjacent businesses.
Robert Scarano Jr. is notorious in Brooklyn architecture for filing false reports to the Department of Buildings (DOB), and pulling stunts like hiding bathrooms behind drywall, and submitting lofts as storage areas to avoid zoning limits.
