FLATLANDS – Last week, a 75-year old woman was struck and killed by a car in Flatlands, police confirmed today.

Officers responded to a call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian around 9:30 pm on the night of Thursday, March 15. Arriving at Utica Avenue and Avenue L in Flatlands, officers found 75-year old Lucille Raphael, of Fort Greene, with trauma to her leg, said police.

According to the investigation, a 71-year old man was backing up his Cadillac CTS on northbound Utica Avenue when he struck a parked Chevrolet, as well as Ms. Raphael. After the initial crash, the driver also hit a parked Audi, according to the Collision Investigation Squad.

Ms. Raphael was rushed to Kings County Hospital by responding EMS, where she succumbed to her injuries and died the next day, on Friday, March 16, said police.

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed and no arrests have been made, said police. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Traffic safety has been a major concern for Brooklyn residents in the beginning of 2018, as numerous pedestrians have been killed by cars. After a march in Park Slope last week, Mayor De Blasio put his support behind legislation that would keep dangerous drivers off the road.
