A renovated basketball court. Stairwell lighting at Ingersoll and Whitman Houses. New security cameras and paint at Farragut Houses. Bathroom and technology upgrades at local schools. Real-time bus signs along the B44 and B65 routes.

These are just a few of the 19 projects that have made it to the ballot of our 35th Council District’s first round of participatory budgeting (PBNYC), sponsored by Councilmember Laurie Cumbo. They were whittled down from 45 projects nominated/brainstormed by residents at community meetings and online in recent months. Estimated project costs range from $36,500 up to $500,000 each.

Now it’s up to US to vote on which projects actually get funded. Vote Week is Tuesday, March 29 through Sunday, April 3.

Voting locations include CM Cumbo’s office (1 Hanson Place, Suite 201, entrance on Ashland Place) and Brooklyn Borough Hall (209 Joralemon Street).

Other locations will be located across Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights, and Crown Heights, but haven’t been finalized yet.

There is $1 million up for grabs in the 35th Council District — plus an additional $100,000 courtesy of Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Volunteers are also needed for Vote Week — outreach volunteers, poll site workers, data entry assistants, interpreters and translators — so if you’re available and interested, reach out to Cumbo’s PBNYC Coordinatory, Sasha Sealey via email at ssealey@council.nyc.gov.
