There are a whole bunch of fun events coming up in the neighborhood this weekend — from the third annual Kings County Fiber Festival to a Rocky Horror opera. That, and so much more, so get out there and enjoy something interesting.

Local Food Tasting
When: Thursday, October 9, 6-7:30pm
Where: Slope Wellness, 816 8th Avenue
What: Starting next week, Slope Wellness will be a pick-up location for Farmigo, a service that allows you to select fruit, vegetables, and more online from local farmers, and then they’re delivered here each week. Tonight you can taste test some of those items, and learn more about the process.

Author Talk: Alice McDermott
When: Thursday, October 9, 7pm
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: National Book Award-winning author Alice McDermott will discuss her latest novel, Someone, which strikes a Dubliners-esque tone as it follows Brooklyn resident Marie Commeford, an ordinary woman from an Irish-American family, through life’s joys and sorrows.
How much: Free!

Author Talk: Yona Zeldis McDonough
When: Thursday, October 9, 7pm
Where: BookCourt, 163 Court Street, Cobble Hill
What: The Park Slope author will be in conversation with Caroline Leavitt to discuss her new book, You Were Meant for Me, about a single woman finds a newborn baby girl in a Brooklyn subway station.
How much: Free!

Art Opening: Gowanus Wild
When: Friday, October 10, 6:30-8:30pm
Where: Ground Floor Gallery,343 5th Street
What: Gowanus-based photographer Miska Draskoczy, who will also be the gallery’s artist-in-resident during the month of October, launches his solo photography exhibit that looks at wilderness in the industrial neighborhood. During the reception, the artist will give a talk at 7:30pm.
How much: Free!

The Rocky Horror OPERA Show
When: Friday, October 10, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street
What: Opera On Tap’s New Brew is back for a horrifying evening of desperation, fear, excitement, and beer! Expect costumes, minor-second intervals, imbibing, and possibly even an on-stage fight in this event to get you in the mood for Halloween.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.

Third Annual King’s County Fiber Festival
When: Saturday, October 11, 10am-6pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Check out natural fibers for spinners, knitters, and crocheters, plus handspun and painted yarns and rovings of many varieties. There will also be handcrafted knit, crocheted, and woven clothing, hats, and scarves for the family, plus demonstrations, an art exhibit, great live music, and more.
How much: Free admission!

Time After Time: Romy And Michele’s Tribute Dance Party
When: Saturday, October 11, 10pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: A special dance party tribute to the film will feature all kinds of ’80s hits spun by DJ Steve Reynolds, classic music video projections by Stephen Pitalo, a Post-it photo booth, a costume contest, a king and queen coronation, and a few surprises. Plus, everyone who arrives between 10-11pm will get a Corona beer.
How much: $5 in advance, $7 at the door and they swear it’s free for “anyone who wears a Michele back brace, tuxedo, or arrives via helicopter.”

Lunar Walk Poetry Series
When: Sunday, October 12, 4:30pm
Where: Two Moon Art House & Cafe, 325 4th Avenue
What: Hear the work of Ilyse Kusnetz, whose poems have appeared in journals such as Rattle, Crazyhorse, the Atlanta Review, Stone Canoe, and Poetry Review; and Brian Turner, the author of Here, Bullet, and Phantom Noise.
How much: Free!
