So you want to enjoy Halloween like a kid, but you don’t want to be surrounded by them? As much as a reputation Park Slope has for being all about children, there are just as many Halloween events for adults in the area this year. Here’s your ultimate list of scary, ridiculous, and booze-filled things to do to celebrate, starting tonight:
Secret Science Club: Shocktober Edition

For its Shocktober edition, the Secret Science Club explores urban evolution and the wild beasts of NYC with biologist Jason Munshi-South. Test your knowledge during a beastly trivia contest, and try the cocktail of the night, the “Creature Feature.”

You’re probably going to dress up as your favorite internet meme for Halloween anyway, so why not surround yourself with likeminded folks? There’s a costume contest judged by the internet’s “finest,” prizes for Gagnam Style dancers, and free drinks for the first 200 people.

Based on the many, many photos of freaked out visitors, there are scares a-plenty at this pop-up haunted house.
Warehouse of Horrors: Gowanus ’73

Tickets: $20, plus service fee
Haunted house with a twist of local history: “After a string of mysterious and grotesque murders at an underground rave party, a complex web of mafia relations, crooked cops, and dangerous drug dealers is revealed.” Admission fee includes three curated cocktails per person. The October 31 event includes a costume contest, but costumes are encouraged on all dates.

Get in costume and haunt seven local bars on this organized crawl, mostly along 5th Avenue. Drink specials vary, but may include $3 draft beers and $4 mixed drinks, plus you can expect some goodies, music, and entertainment along the way.
Halloween Sewing Special – Be A Burlesque Dancer!

Summon your DIY spirit and learn how to make your own Halloween costume – specifically, a sexy burlesque dancer. Brooklyn Brewery is sponsoring the event, so you’ll get two free drink tickets. Just make sure you learn how to account for a beer gut when you’re sewing in the sequins.

Rooftop Films is taking things indoors with this day of music, food, drinks, and eight hours of creepy movies, including Murder Party, Saturday Morning Massacre, and a slew of horrifying short films.

Host Pat Kiernan will test your knowledge of scary movies, ghouls, ghosts, monsters, costumes and candy. Multiple rounds of full-room and 1-on-1 trivia, themed prizes and a costume contest. Don’t live in Park Slope? They’re bussing people in from Union Square for an extra $10.
The 5th Annual Schtick or Treat

On Halloween, bands often perform as other, bigger bands (see Dionne Werewolf below). This is like that, but with comedy. Schtick or Treat gives something like 30 comics three minutes each to perform jokes as their favorite comedian.
The Bushwick Book Club: The Works of Edgar Allen Poe

Six local songwriters explore the works of the spooktastic Edgar Allen Poe with original songs based on his stories, all in one hour. Also expect Poe-inspired food and drink.
