After the mysterious ‘PPG’ sign found on Stratford Road yesterday, we’re excited to report on a film shoot worth getting excited about. The critically acclaimed comedy-drama “Orange is the new Black“, which just aired its fourth season in June, will be filming scenes from season 5 on Marlborough Road next week.

Due to thunderstorm forecasts for Friday, the OITB shoot is being rescheduled for next Wednesday, August 3, according to the film’s location manager. The current signs, which list a schedule for this weekend, should be replaced by tonight.

The shoot will take over the sidewalks and parking spaces on Marlborough Road between Beverley Road and Church Avenue, but the streets will still be open to traffic flow, the location manager told us.

Cars must be moved by 10pm on Tuesday, August 2 (not this Thursday) — or risk getting towed to a nearby legal parking spot by the tow truck cadre. But don’t worry, if this happens to you simply call 311 or the NYC Office of Entertainment and Media at 212-489-6710 for help locating your car.

Though the spokesperson we contacted wasn’t allowed to reveal details, we’d like to spend a moment imagining how that lovely block could fit into lives of characters serving time in a women’s prison (which is OITB’s setting).

Maybe the Marlborough Road scenes will be flashbacks for Piper, a central character who grew up in a wealthy northeastern suburb? (Flashbacks are a narrative technique the show uses to give the characters emotional context and tell stories within stories during each episode.) Maybe the scenes will feature views of the 110-year-old home bought by actress Michelle Williams, close by the OITB shoot.

[Update: The plot thickens — we received a tip from a neighbor who spotted prop boxes listing the Marlborough Road location as a sorority house.]

If you spot the crew filming, send us photos with the cross-streets where you saw it to editor@ditmasparkcorner.com, and we’ll post it to the blog.
