On The 12th Anniversary of 9/11
Today makes 12 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks. In addition to visiting the 9/11 Memorial site and pledging to do a good deed, here are some ways to honor the memory of those who were lost and those who helped on that day:
- Visit the National Tribute Quilt at the American Folk Art Museum (2 Lincoln Square, off Columbus Avenue between W 65th and W 66th Streets in Manhattan). There are blocks on the quilt from every US state as well as other countries across the world, and features the names of all those lost in the tragedy.
- Join a one-mile interfaith peace walk starting at Saint Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church (20 Cardinal Hayes Place near Pearl Street) at 3pm, and ending at 5pm with an interfaith prayer service at the 9/11 Memorial. Tickets are limited, so RSVP here.
- Watch In Memoriam – New York City, 9/11/01 at The Museum of the City of New York (1220 5th Avenue between E 103rd and E 104th Streets) at 4pm.The Rudy Giuliani-narrated documentary features first-hand accounts of what happened on September 11. The film is free with museum admission.
- Visit Ray Fiore’s Hand Court Mural at Bill Brown Playground (Bedford Avenue and Avenue X). There will be a vigil at 6:30pm tonight.
- Hear C.J. Chivers of the New York Times and Steven Hindy discuss covering 9/11 and its aftermath, plus see photos by Fabio Bucciarelli at Brooklyn Brewery (79 N 11th Street between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue). Doors at 7:30pm, events beings at 8. Proceeds from each $25 go towards training field correspondents in first aid and other lifesaving skills with RISC.
