NYPD Seek Escaped Suspect in 5th Ave/12th St Homicide Case From 2010


Police Seek Suspect Brandon Santana

The police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Brandon Santana, a 24-year-old man (pictured above) who escaped the 78th precinct while in police custody early Thursday morning, at around 2:00 a.m. According to the NYPD, one officer received minor injuries in the scuffle and is currently being treated at Methodist Hospital.

Santana was arrested on Wednesday, January 23 as the suspect in the murder of Alexander Santiago in August of 2010. Santiago was beaten and fatally stabbed in a horrifically violent assault at the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th Street, during which a group of 20 young men attacked Santiago with crowbars and tire irons. The attack followed a brief altercation at a local bodega.

Santana is described as 5’11”, approximately 200 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a brown hooded jacket, blue jeans, and white sneakers.
