NY Methodist Introduces New Outpatient Radiology Imaging Center
Our neighborhood is now home to one of the most advanced Outpatient Radiology Imaging Centers in all of New York City.
On October 6, senior administration officials and medical staff members cut the ribbon on the new imaging center at New York Methodist Hospital (506 6th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues). The center has capability to produce high quality images, incorporating the results into a patient’s electronic medical record.
“This is a proud day for us,” said Mark J. Mundy, president and CEO of New York Methodist. “The Outpatient Radiology Imaging Center brings advanced new radiologic imaging devices to the Hospital and houses those devices in one convenient area designed to provide the best experience for NYM’s patients.”
The center includes a 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, a 128-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, and a 4D Ultrasound machine.
Steven Garner, M.D., chairman of radiology at the Hospital, explains that the patient’s comfort is top priority in tandem with the hyper-detailed imagining that is now available. “As an example—a 3 Tesla MRI system allows us to get images of the spine, brain, bones, the circulatory system, and soft tissue with no harmful radiation, and with greater detail than previous technology,” says Garner.
Lauren Yedvab, senior vice president at Methodist was responsible for spearheading the project. She also believes that while the technology is extremely advanced, being patient-friendly was factored in throughout the development process. “The patient flow and its spaciousness [makes] us so excited about the Center. Every aspect of it demonstrates that, at New York Methodist Hospital, the patient always comes first.”
