Nine Chains Is Definitely Worth The Walk
Nine Chains

Remember your New Year’s resolution to walk more?

A great bowl of faro or the lemon cake is just far enough away to entice you to take a walk to Church Avenue’s far side, across Coney Island Avenue, to Nine Chains, the new bakery from the folks behind The Farm on Adderley, at 1111 Church between Stratford and Westminster. If the walk isn’t for you, though, you can catch the B35 bus, which runs along Church.

It’s a lovely, cozy place with the staff — the baker, the owner, and servers — hovering about and more than willing to talk. Then, of course, there is the bowl of faro tossed with chopped nuts and Parmesan cheese, sweetened with squash bits, and crowned by a soft-cooked egg ($5). It’s the perfect brunch: tasty, crunchy, sweet, and healthy, whether you eat it at 11am or 4pm.  The lemon cake is good (and only $2), the coffee hot and strong. Judging by the rave reviews on Yelp, the Kensington Facebook page, and the KWT Neighbors listserv, it’s no longer a secret.

Moreover, it usually has bread samples out along with a pot of butter. That’s how I bought the buckwheat loaf ($6 per loaf, perhaps a bit pricey) and a ciabatta, and tasted a whiskey bread. All delicious. Hard not to scarf them down in one fell swoop once you’ve got them home.

Have you walked over to check it out yet? What do you think?
