Last Friday, January 20, marked the first delivery and installation of new GE refrigerators and Premier ranges at Marlboro Houses in Gravesend. Assembly members Cymbrowitz and Colton were joined by New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Chair and CEO Shola Olatoye were present  to announce the delivery of the new appliances for the residents of Marlboro Houses.

All 1,765 apartments will be getting new appliances, according to Assembly member Cymbrowitz. Installation is scheduled to be complete in the first two weeks of March, and the new appliances will be replacing 16 year old fridges, and 34 year old stoves.

The new fridges and stoves are part of the $3 million in improvements that the two lawmakers jointly obtained for the Gravesend housing complex in 2016. “Improving the quality of life for the people of Marlboro Houses is extremely important to me,” said Assemblyman Cymbrowitz, Chair of the Assembly’s Housing Committee.

“I’m pleased that Assemblyman Colton and I were able to obtain the funding for new stoves and refrigerators along with other exterior enhancements for Marlboro that will make a difference for everyone living here. My thanks to Governor Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Heastie for making this funding a reality and to NYCHA Chair Olatoye for joining us today to announce this piece of good news.”

“ The appliance upgrades will benefit all of the residents, including seniors, working families and children” Assemblyman William Colton added.

In addition to paying for new appliances, the $3 million — $1.5 million from each Assembly member – will fund picnic and recreation area upgrades, including a new basketball court. The timeline for other improvements is not available at this time.

The Marlboro funds were made possible by a 2015 statute that allocated $100 million from JP Morgan settlement funds for a public housing modernization and improvement program for 193 NYCHA housing developments. Marlboro Houses is bounded by Avenue V, Avenue X, 86th Street and Stillwell Avenue. The complex includes 1,765 apartments.
