New Historic District Street Signs Installed in Fiske Terrace and Midwood Park

New historic district street signs were recently installed in Fiske Terrace and Midwood Park, designated a jointly named historic district in 2008.

Last summer, the Times wrote about how several historic districts were still missing their new street signs, and then the Historic Districts Council made a list of the neighborhoods still needing signs. You’ll notice that they are the new mixed case signs, which are now required by the Federal Highway Administration, and which in NYC feature a new font as well.

“They were installed this past Saturday morning,” said neighbor Fred Baer. “Their installation was a result of the effort of the Fiske Terrace Association, with funding from Councilmembers Jumaane Williams and Mathieu Eugene — NYCDOT fabricates and installs them but doesn’t pay for them and the signs have to be specifically requested by the neighborhood — and the great cooperation and assistance of the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and the Flatbush Development Corporation.”

The neighbors seem quite pleased with the new hardware.

“We are very happy to have these new signs,” said Fred. “They are the final element of a long process to have our neighborhood designated as a NYC Historic District.”
