Neighbors Helping Neighbors Around The Slope

Much of last weekend may have taken a gray and chilly turn, but warm and generous neighbors could be found all over South Slope giving their time to help others in need.

At Bartel Pritchard Square, over 30 families joined the South Slope Pediatrics team (shown above) for Sunday’s Cinco de Mayo 5k.

Jonahs Just Begun Family Dr. Cao

The group has been hard at work raising money for local non-profit Jonah’s Just Begun, formed by Jill Wood and Jeremy Weishaar (shown above with Jonah and Dr. Cao) after their son was diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome, a rare and deadly genetic disease, when he was only 22 months old. All monies raised through the foundation help fund the potentially life-saving research of Sanfilippo, which currently has no cure, and very few treatment options.

South Slope Pediatrics set a $10,000 goal, and at the time of this post, has raised an impressive $10,881. Congratulations, neighbors!

Team Caleb Bake Sale

Over at the 9th Street entrance to Prospect Park, Team CALEB had goodies galore as they continued their fundraising efforts for Kids Walk For Kids With Cancer, scheduled for Saturday, May 10. Their brownies, cookies, and cakes definitely struck a chord with folks visiting the park, because the Sande family raised an additional $732.61 toward their $10,800 goal.

If you weren’t able to score one of their amazingly tasty brownies, Team CALEB will set up outside of PS 10 (511 7th Avenue, between Prospect Avenue and 17th Street) on Friday, May 9, at 3pm, for round two of their bake sale. Calories don’t count when you’re supporting a Team CALEB bake sale, so definitely stop by to say hello.
