Neighbors Asking For Help In Rescue Of South Slope Dog

An abandoned South Slope dog has found her angels.

Ashley Affrunti and her husband spotted Dottie the dog, who she described as “emaciated, neglected and most likely abused,” wandering around 17th Street and 7th Avenue earlier this week. After the area shelters explained that they were all full, the couple took Dottie in, and have spent the past three days shuttling the dog between vet visits and their home, doing everything they can to nurse her back to health. Ashley updated friends on Dottie’s condition via their Facebook page:

– When we found Dottie, you could see her spine, hip bones, the temple on her head – she is very underweight and probably has gotten little to no food. Our vet said possibly up to two months without food.

– She has a fairly large wound on her backside/hip about the size of a silver dollar and very deep. More like a hole than a cut or sore. As of now, our Vet has suggesting getting her weight up a little so her immune system is stronger, and then she may or may not need to have surgery on that wound to help it heal. With wet and dry bandages. This could possibly be expensive, but we are working with our Vet as much as possible to keep costs down.

– We got an X-ray of her stomach and chest to make sure everything was normal, and a foreign object was found in her stomach. She has had two rounds of X-rays since Monday and an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday).

Dottie still has a long way to go, and to help ease some of the financial burden of her medical expenses, Ashley has set up a Go Fund Me page. At the time of this post, the site has already raised $2,850 of their $5,000 goal, so if you’re able, please consider making a donation.
