We met up with Brandon Hew, a sophomore math major at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, while he was practicing his ice skating moves by rollerblading in Fort Greene Park.

What got you into ice skating?

A friend of mine wanted to go one day and took me along. I’m relatively new at it, nothing that extravagant. I’ve been learning by myself. I’m into everything, snowboarding, pool, table tennis, video games. You name it, I’ve probably tried it. I like ice skating because it’s a faster way of transportation.

Where do you go ice skating?

I usually go to Central Park at 110th Street.

How long have you lived in the neighborhood?

Eleven years.

Have you seen a lot of changes in the neighborhood?

Well, I didn’t really pay attention growing up as a kid, I mostly played video games. But I’ve heard Myrtle Avenue used to be a lot worse. It’s pretty good now.

What’s your favorite place to eat in the neighborhood?

Not Ray’s Pizza. It’s the best pizza ever.
