Wanda’s Monster, a musical for kids directed by Ditmas Park resident Adrienne Kapstein, was recently reviewed in Time Out New York Kids as part of their Blogger Series.

Momtrends managing editor and fellow neighbor Serena Norr lauded the play, adapted by Making Books Sing’s Barbara Zinn Kreiger from an early-2000s picture book by Eileen Spinelli and featuring music and lyrics by Laurie Berkner, for the way it addressed universal themes like family, making friends, and overcoming differences. She says:

I loved how it dealt with issues like fear, shyness and friendship as the monster and Wanda slowly become friends. We also enjoyed how the story connected Wanda and her Granny—it was Granny who encouraged her to believe in the monster and be open to making a new friend.

In April, too, The New York Times also applauded Adrienne’s ability to make the monster in question “not only sweet but also sublimely silly.”

Wanda’s Monster is at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E 15th Street between Park Avenue South and Irving Place in Manhattan) through September 8. Tickets are $39 to $65, and you can use the code MBSAVE for 25% off.
