If you believe in bartering, not buying, here are two events coming up in the neighborhood that might strike your fancy:

  • This Saturday, May 24, Lark (1007 Church Avenue between E 10th Street and Stratford Road) will be holding a Shop & Swap sale from 3-6pm. Local parents can browse kids’ clothes 3 months-5T, plus toys, books, and more. Most items will be under $10 and credit cards will be accepted, with a portion of proceeds going to Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenital Support. Participants can also drop off up to 10 gently used, stain-free pieces of kids’ clothing to swap, and pick up a few items for free from the designated “swap” section. All leftover clothing will be donated.
  • On Sunday, June 8, from 4-6pm, Brooklyn ARTery (1021 Cortelyou Road between Stratford Road and Coney Island Avenue) will be holding a homemade and foraged food swap. “Whether you made too much jam or love to cook for a crowd, this event is for people who love to make, share and eat homemade food.  We welcome any comestible you make, grow or forage. Swap what you bring for delicious items that strikes your fancy brought by other attendees. Bring anything from homemade bread to backyard chicken eggs to figs from your fig tree,” Brooklyn ARTery says of the event, which will host up to 12 swappers. Learn more and reserve your spot (a $5 contribution is asked to help defray costs) here.
