After the city Department of Health closed Famous Pita, at the corner of Coney Island Avenue and Newkirk Avenue, for operating with an expired food service establishment permit earlier this month, neighbors noticed the windows were papered up – and now we’ve learned that a restaurant called Max’s Chicken & Burger is expected to open there by the end of February, the owner told us today.

Many thanks to neighbor Daniel X Matz for letting us know he spotted a sign in the window for the new restaurant, which is the first U.S. site for the Canadian chain owned by Max Raja.

Max let us know that the new restaurant’s menu is going to be a little different from the one in Canada and will include rotisserie and fried chicken, a salad bar, shawarma, burgers, and more. They will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the spot likely being open from 5am to midnight.

The new owner said breakfast will include fried eggs, omelettes, eggs benedict, french toast and more. He’s currently finalizing the menu and pricing, so we’ll be sure to let you know more about what’s going to be offered when we find out.

“There will be free wi-fi – it’ll have a friendly atmosphere,” said Max, who added that he’s now looking for a number of people to work there, including cashiers, cooks, and delivery people.
