Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which is observed today, Monday, January 20, is intended to be a day of service and peace. Federal and state offices are closed so people can get out and volunteer.

If you’re still looking for a way to give back, check out MLKDay.org, which serves as, among other things, a curator of volunteer activities happening today. See their site for additional activities, which can be searched by zip code.

As for city services, here’s how things are running today:

• Government offices and courts and the Department of Motor Vehicle offices are closed.

• There is no mail delivery.

• Public schools are closed.

• Alternate side parking regulations are suspended, but all other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

• Subways, busses, and the Staten Island Ferry are running on a regular weekday schedule.

• All branches of the Public Library systems are closed.
