Manhole Fires & Power Outages Popping Up Around Neighborhood

It appears that all of this snow, salt, and slush are wreaking havoc on the city’s underground utilities.

Neighbor Erik Botsford spotted a manhole fire on Jackson Place (shown above), between 16th Street and Prospect Avenue, and mentioned that their lights were flickering on 16th.

According to the Con Ed map, we’ve got a handful of issues in the area, including another manhole fire on 14th Street and 3rd Avenue, and power outages on 12th and 15th Streets.

If you experience a power outage, contact Con Ed at 1-800-752-6633. If you see a smoking manhole or a manhole fire, you should call 911.
