A man turned himself in at the 78th Precinct yesterday and was arrested after allegedly slashing and stabbing his estranged wife to death.

55-year-old Beresford Ashley, who does not have a criminal record, arrived at the precinct on Wednesday morning, September 14 with blood on his clothes and a cut hand, the Daily News reported.

Ashley has been connected to the murder of his estranged wife, 45-year-old Karen Ashley. According to a police spokesperson, cops arrived at 1314 Blake Avenue in East New York at approximately 11:53pm on Tuesday, September 13.

Karen Ashley was discovered after being slashed and stabbed in her parked car on Blake Avenue.

“She was on the phone. He just cut her throat,” said 58-year-old neighbor Betty Pratt. “She didn’t know he was in the back seat at first.”

The suspect was charged with both murder and criminal possession of a weapon on Wednesday, September 14 at approximately 12:30pm.

According to the Daily, he told investigators that the estranged couple had gotten into a fight.

“I think I committed an offense,” Beresford Ashley told the cops. “I got in a fight with my wife in her car in front of her place.”

Neighbors say they have three grown children.

48-year-old Diane Russell, Karen Ashley’s roommate, found the dead women in a 2004 Nissan Maxima, Gothamist reported. “She called me and told me to come outside right away,” she said. Russell saw Beresford Ashley leaving in another car.

The Daily described Beresford Ashley, who was wearing a white Tyvek suit, as “emotionless”  when he was arraigned in court on Wednesday.

He is currently being held without bail.
