Man Assaults NYPD Officer, Spitting Blood and Elbowing

WILLIAMSBURG – A uniformed NYPD officer was assaulted at Bedford Ave and Wilson St while on duty yesterday in Williamsburg, a NYPD spokesperson confirmed.

At 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 24, the officer was placing Anthony Caines, 37, in handcuffs when Caines attempted to grab the officer’s gun belt, police said.

Then, Caines spit blood and saliva into the face, eyes and mouth of the officer before elbowing them in the face, said police.

A picture posted to Twitter by New York City Alerts shows what appears to be blood on the hood of a police car.

The corner of Wilson and Bedford is home to both P.S. 16 and the NYCHA Independence Towers.

Caines was arrested for assault and criminal mischief, said police.
