Poll: Who Makes The Best Bagel In Bensonhurst?

Business Insider just came out with a “definitive” list of best bagel shops in New York City, based on which ones are getting the most praise on the Foursquare app, but disappointingly, the only southwestern Brooklyn store to make the ranking was Bagel Boy (8002 3rd Avenue) in Bay Ridge.

While we do love our Bagel Boy, the problem with this highly unscientific study is that it favors bagelries in tourist traps like Park Slope, as well as Kew Gardens, Queens — which, admittedly, does know how to make a good bagel. However, Foursquarers have apparently failed to venture very far south into Bensonhurst, which we know is home to some of the doughiest, fluffiest, and most decadent hole-y breads in the borough.

So, in the interest of fairness, we are conducting comprehensive survey on the numerous high-quality bagel shops in Bensonhurst, Gravesend and Dyker Heights. Whether you prefer Wild Bagels, with its myriad of novelty cream cheese flavors, the rainbow-swirled breads at Dyker Park Bagels, or you lean towards the classic egg-potato-and-cheese sandwiches at Bagels Plus, everyone has a bagel opinion in this neighborhood.

    1. Bagel enthusiasts can cast up to three votes.
    2. Contest ends Friday, July 29 at 12pm.

Cast your vote and let the world know why Bensonhurst bagels are work trekking out for. We counted 15 bagel shops in our area, but if we left any off the list, let us know in the comments, and we will make sure to add it.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. I have to find out where my Dad gets our Sunday brunch bagels before I vote. We’ve sampled every bagel store around before settling on our best fave.

I wouldn’t trust any app to select any best anything. Algorithms can be manipulated too easily, and the people who review things online are always suspect.

  2. What about Bagel Bazaar on Bay Parkway and 86th? Fresh baked bagels every morning. Mmm.

  3. You missed the best, Cropsey Bagels. They just reopened a few months ago. They also make their own bialys which are excellent.

  4. Tasty bagels is more of a upper-tier establishment and also price-wise too compared to the others on the list.

  5. We shifted to Tasty Bagels a while back, and have been very happy. Bagel Town hasn’t been very good in a long while (taste and texture aside, they always mess up my order). Fort Hamilton Bagels used to be Bagel Boy, and while it seems they are using the Bagel Boy equipment and recipe, they don’t have the same consistency of quality that BB had.

  6. Fort Hamilton Bagels are top notch..actually the world’s best bagels..every spread is home made, fresh..because the sell so much!! They have a bagel oven on the premises, the bagels are made from scratch! They have to win!!

  7. Hi Sean..they did have a problem with their bagel oven, but they are back to being the best! The owner informed me when I bought breakfast awhile ago, of the unfortunate situation..but it’s now rectified..

  8. I was going to say gerritsen beach bagels!! They are awesome. Also Bagel supreme on 96th? And 5th
