On Monday, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles announced that the Coney Island DMV Office at 2875 West 8th Street will temporarily close for “extensive renovations” beginning this Friday, October 21.

The renovations will “increase modernization and efficiency at the facility”, according to a press release.

Included in the changes to be made are a reconfigured main counter, new office signage, and an improved driver testing room format.

“The renovations at the Coney Island office will continue our commitment to superior customer service and provide a more efficient facility for customers to conduct their transactions,” said DMV Executive Deputy Commissioner Terri Egan.  “We recognize that there are always ways to improve and believe that the finished product at our Coney Island Office will greatly enhance the DMV experience for both our customers and staff members.”

In the interim, the DMV encourages Coney Island office customers to use dmv.ny.gov to make a variety of transactions including renewing a vehicle registration and driver license.

The DMV’s 11 other New York City offices will serve as alternatives for Coney customers.
