Love Your Block? Apply for a Grant and Show It!

Last month we told you about an opportunity to apply for a $2,000 neighborhood improvement grant. Well, here are some more chances to get cash to make your neck of the woods a little better.

The Citizens’ Committee for New York is offering a variety of neighborhood improvement grants. Is there a vacant lot next door that needs cleaning up? Or perhaps a dead tree that needs replacing? Maybe you want your own book exchange.

One of them, the Love Your Block grant, has a deadline at the end of the month. Not only can you get a$1,000 to better your block, you get access to city services, such as Department of Parks or the Department of Transportation.

Did you know that the dogs of NYC produce over 275,000 tons of dog waste each year? If you have an idea for how to compost it, here’s a way to get involved with groups given a total of $10,000 to make it so.

Resident-led groups can apply for a$500-3,000 micro-grants for neighborhood or school improvement ideas for their Community Grants. Deadline is January 31, 2013.

They’ve also just announced Hurricane Relief Grants, which will award up to $5,000 to volunteer-led groups that are providing relief to areas that were hard hit by the storm.

Get to it!
