Lock Those Fire Escape Windows: 7th Ave Apartment Robbed

78th Police Car

An apartment on 7th Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets was robbed on February 4th, according to Park Slope Patch, and it appears that the thief entered through the fire escape window.

The two victims, both 25-year-old residents, told police that they left their apartment, between 11th and 12th streets, at around 8:15 a.m. and locked their door. However, they did not lock the back window off the fire escape. When they came back home at around 9:05 p.m. their apartment was ransacked. The crook got away with an Apple laptop, a PC laptop, a pair of gold earrings with diamonds and an aquamarine stone, 10 pearl earrings, five watches, and six necklaces with aquamarine pendants.

It’s easy to become complacent when living on the upper floors of a building, but as evidenced in the 61st Precinct recently, fire escape robberies are much more common than we would like to believe. Think of your windows as doors, and if you’re leaving the apartment, lock them up.
