Local Kids Get Interactive At Bensonhurst Greenmarket

The wee ones descended on Milestone Park this Sunday for a free, hands-on science class at the Bensonhurst Greenmarket.

Organized by Jacqui Roytman of SNAP to Grow!, a studio lab for science and art exploration through theme-based experimentation, the event was the first of three similar events scheduled for this month.

This past Sunday, the kids learned about botany, enjoyed a reading of Jack and the Bean Stalk, and then got interactive with soil, each child going home with their own Lima bean greenhouse.

On November 10, kids will be able to explore chemistry, engaging in water density experiments.

On November 17, they’ll dig into earth science, with the kids assembling a sub-irrigated planter to bring home.

The events take place on Sundays through November, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. It’s free and open to kids everywhere.

The greenmarket itself is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located on 81st Street and 18th Avenue.
