Nothing Else Will Ever Compare by Matthew Deese

I tell her, “Baby girl, I don’t care?!”She just gives me that look & says, “That’s not fair… I wanna look radiant; I want everyone to stare!”I laugh & tell her, “Shut your mouth & just come here…”She looks back at me with a pout & a sigh; shoulders drooped, hands over her eyes.I say, “There’s no need to cry, no need for that sigh.  I’m about to let you in on a little secret; it’s about being your guy.  You see, I don’t care what you wear, where we go or how long we’re there, because everywhere we go, people stare.  Stare at you & your beauty; your smile & that booty, but when I stare I’m staring at what you do to me.  I can’t even believe that you’re still talking to me most times?!  I still pinch myself when you’re by my side, because every time that I’m around you it’s the jumping for joy that I have to hide!”She says, “I don’t know, it’s just…”I stop her right there.  She lays her head on my shoulder & I caress her hair.  I say, “Be quiet now, don’t you dare.  When are you gonna realize that I’ll always stare.  Stare at you every day for the rest of my life I hope, because you’re my star & I’m your telescope.  I’ve loved you since the first time that we spoke.  I was dumbfounded by your presence like my voice box had a stroke.  The words just wouldn’t come out; I thought I would choke!  I panicked a bit as I tried to mask it w/ a joke.  There was an awkward silence then you smiled & took a toke.  But right then & there I knew that you were my drug & I was hooked on your coke.  You make my heart float, you’re my soul’s love note & for the rest of my life I can only hope… hope that I’ll always be able to stare.  So, baby, just calm down; I promise its fair.  With you in my life I’ll always stare, because I know that for the rest of my life nothing else will ever compare!”
