A livery cab careened into a discount store Monday night, smashing a plate glass window before coming to a stop during the height of rush hour at one of Park Slope’s busiest intersections. Four people were injured during the incident.

The FDNY was called to the scene at approximately 5:24pm on Monday, December 12.

A police spokesperson said that the livery cab was traveling southbound on 5th Avenue towards 9th Street when the driver lost control and veered left onto 9th Street. The car first hit two mailboxes and then struck two pedestrians.

The car came to a stop after hitting the plate glass window on the 9th Street side of Deals & Discounts (or “D II”) located at 445 5th Avenue.

A spokesperson said that four people were attended to at the scene. Three were transported to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital (the official new name) in Park Slope. The FDNY said the injuries are serious, however not life threatening. One other individual refused medical attention.

Sources say the livery driver — who was driving with a suspended license — has been arrested.

Neighbor Jeff Bush described the scene, saying that the police crime scene tape kept about 30-40 onlookers back from the crash location.

Sources say that the building has already been inspected and did not suffer structural damage.

The nearby intersection was the scene of a pedestrian death during a hit-and-run incident on last February 28. In that incident, the suspect’s vehicle ran a red light and struck a 41-year-old male victim as he was crossing 5th Avenue. The suspect did not stop and fled south on 5th Avenue.
