The historic Lundy’s Brothers Restaurant building on Emmons Avenue will be getting some much needed improvements, according to a set of plans that was approved by the Landmarks Preservation Committee, and Community Board 15 last night.

The exterior alterations include repairing ailing areas of the stucco facade; repainting certain areas of the wall; removing and replacing the tiled roof to conform more with the historic qualities of the building; re-cladding awnings with waterproof canvases; and replacing certain awnings, according to the permit.

The building has some violations such as improper signage, and work done without permits, which the LPC says will remain held against the building until the violations are amended. However, at the community board meeting last night, a representative from the LCP said that they will hold a hearing at the end of October to decide whether or not the work can move forward with the violations as they are.

If that happens we could be seeing Lundy’s improvements sooner rather than later.

A man did voice concern at last night’s meeting about a fruit stand he thinks is illegal. He said the area is zoned for parking. The LPC representative countered that the location has plenty of parking, and otherwise brushed off the concern.

We reported over the summer about the deteriorating condition of the building. It seems we’re getting closer to seeing Lundy’s restored to its former glory.
