Running a red light reportedly led a 29-year-old driver and his 35-year-old female passenger to be seriously injured in a two-car pileup on Lafayette Avenue at Cumberland Street early Sunday morning, June 7.

The incident occurred at around 1:45am when, as investigators told NBC4, the man drove his SUV through the light and “struck a car on Lafayette Avenue [then] four parked cars and overturned.”

As described by CBS2, “it plowed into a Smart car and then slammed into four cars and a motorcycle parked along the side of the street. The force was so strong, the vehicles were piled on top of each other and pushed up onto the sidewalk.”

The man and woman were taken to New York Methodist Hospital with bodily trauma; the other driver refused medical attention and no arrests have been made, although police could decide to file criminal charges at a later date.
