Police are investigating what appears to be a drive-by shooting on Avenue S that occurred while Labor Day celebrations were drawing to a close.

An employee at Buckley’s Bar and Restaurant, which sits near where the shooting took place at Avenue S and Nostrand Avenue, said that around 9:15pm a driver flung open his door and started firing, then drove away.

Police said no one was injured and they had not identified a target of the shooter. Detectives recovered bullet casings at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

The shooting capped another violent Labor Day weekend that saw several instances of gun violence around the city. An aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo was shot in the head after a shootout broke out hours before the governor arrived in Brooklyn for the West Indian Day Parade. Newsday reports the aide is in a coma and fighting for his life.

On Tuesday, Cuomo said the shooting brought the issue of gun violence home “in a personal way” and called for stricter national gun laws, according to the New York Times.
