What better way to enjoy a summer evening than curled up by the sea listening to some tunes?

On Stage at Kingsborough has announced the lineup for their annual free outdoor summer concert series. The shows will take place in July at the Lighthouse Bandshell on the Kingsborough Community College campus. The series has booked some exciting jazz bands to serenade you beside the shore.

“Our summer concerts will have audiences up on their feet, swinging and swaying to the music,” Anna Becker, executive director of On Stage At Kingsborough, said in a press release. “We’ll hear the sounds of Swing, and enjoy some jazz standards right alongside some Memphis soul and hot jazz, all while taking in the nearby ocean breeze in the shadow of Kingsborough’s Lighthouse by the sea.”

Admission is free and gates open at 7pm. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs and picnic blankets. The series begins on the first Saturday in July. In the event of rain, the show will be moved to the Leon M. Goldstein Performing Arts Center.

Here’s the lineup:

July 2, 8pm
THE GLENN CRYTZER ORCHESTRA
With Special Guest Lindy Hoppers from the Syncopated City Dance Company!
The Glenn Crytzer Orchestra celebrates Independence Day with swing-era classics, patriotic songs, and lesser known gems from artists like Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, and Count Basie. The Orchestra has performed at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing, the Rainbow Room, and weekly at the Fillmore Room in Manhattan.
July 9, 8pm
DAVINA AND THE VAGABONDS
With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits, Davina and The Vagabonds are winning audiences over one show at a time, from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe. Davina and the Vagabonds’ shows are filled with New Orleans charm, Memphis soul swagger, dark theatrical moments, and tender gospel passages.
July 16, 8pm
TAMMY McCANN & THE SHARP RADWAY BIG BAND
Out of Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom came that bold big band swing sound with legends Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Count Basie. Come swing under the stars with one of today’s premier jazz stylists as she brings her one-of-a-kind voice to classic songs from the big band era such as “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me” and “Embraceable You.” Tammy McCann toured as a ‘Raelette’ with the great Ray Charles, and has performed at such venues as Birdland, The Blue Note, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
July 23, 8pm
SVETLANA & THE DELANCEY SIX
With Special Guest Tap Star Michela Marino Lerman!
Take an exhilarating, energetic “dose of jazz vocals” (Time Out), add “shining instrumentals” (Wall Street Journal) and a dash of yesteryear, then mix in a whole lot of musical dexterity and charm – and you have one of New York’s most beloved swing bands, Svetlana & the Delancey Six! Led by “outstanding singer and songwriter” (Wall Street Journal) Russian-by-birth and American-by-music Svetlana Shmulyian, Svetlana & The Delancey Six have performed at New York City’s premier jazz clubs, underground speakeasies, and swing hot jazz events.
