Kings Bay Congregations Offers Free DIY Seder
The Jewish holiday of Passover, which commemorates the Biblical story of the ancient Israelites’ “Exodus” from enslavement in ancient Egypt, will soon be upon us and if you’ve never made a seder — the traditional meal which recounts the story — our friends at Congregation Israel of Kings Bay are here to help.
Come to a “DIY: Do It Yourself Model Seder,” hosted by the synagogue, at 3903 Nostrand Avenue on the corner of Voorhies Avenue, April 13 from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m., where you will learn everything you need to know about preparing for and making a proper Passover seder, which is the Hebrew word for order (We know this because a siddur — a book containing a highly detailed and structured set of daily prayers — derives from the same Hebrew root letters). [Ed – When Erica writes “we know this” she means “Erica knows this.” I, for one, didn’t know that.]
Rabbi Yitzchok Winner will teach participants about the Passover Haggadah and the traditional seder plate, and handmade shmurah matzah will be distributed for your own seder. Additionally, forms for selling your chametz will be available.
The event is free, but a donation is suggested.
