Kensington Stables‘ Walker Blankinship posted on the barn’s Facebook page this afternoon asking neighbors to protest Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio‘s attendance of NYCLASS‘s Animal Heroes of NYC Awards & Fundraiser this evening. Says the post:

A group of concerned horse people from across the city are outraged. NYCLASS supported by Mayor-elect DeBlasio is raising millions of dollars in the name of “saving horses”. NOT ONE HORSE HAS BEEN HELPED.
What they spend their donors money on is lobbying and for a prototype of a tourist trap jalopy. In the meantime there are thousands of horses in real need in this country. Over 100,000 horses are sent to slaughter each year.
Tonight a dinner ticket for $500 would save a horse from slaughter.
The $450,000 “vintage” electric car for tourists would save nearly 1000 horses from slaughter.
It is outrageous that the wealthy donors of NYCLASS get the Mayor-elect’s ear and their lobbyists get rich while the horses of America suffer cruel deaths.

One part of De Blasio’s campaign platform was banning horse-drawn carriages in NYC, in favor of eco- and tourist-friendly cars with an old-timey look.

The fundraiser will take place at the Hippodrome (1120 Avenue of the Americas between W 43rd and W 44th Streets in Manhattan), and protests are beginning at 5:30pm. For more information, contact BHorsetamer@aol.com.

Do you stand with Kensington Stables on this, or do you support the efforts of NYCLASS and de Blasio?
