Join The Flatbush Tenant Coalition Tomorrow As They Put Brooklyn Housing Court On Trial
You may have heard the horror stories of neighbors’ experiences in Brooklyn Housing Court–outdated procedures, inadequate translation services, a system heavily biased towards landlords, and a crumbling building–or maybe you’ve been unfortunate enough to experience it for yourself.
Whatever the case, you are invited to join Borough President Eric Adams and Deputy Borough President Diana Reyna, Public Advocate Letitia James, and tenants and members of Brooklyn Tenants United, which includes the Flatbush Tenant Coalition, Brooklyn Housing Independence Project, Brooklyn Corp A., Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, Fifth Avenue Committee, Housing Court Answers, Legal Services, Brooklyn Programs, Make the Road New York, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Pratt Area Community Council, and St. Nick’s Alliance, tomorrow (Thursday, March 13) at 6pm at Brooklyn Borough Hall‘s Ceremonial Courtroom (209 Joralemon Street between Adams and Court Streets) to discuss the failings of the current Brooklyn Housing Court system. Says the FTC:
To uncover the experiences of tenants in Housing Court, Brooklyn Tenants United will put Brooklyn Housing Court on Trial to show that the Court is guilty of: Inadequate access to translation, inadequate information and signage and a dismal and decrepit facility owned by David Bistricer, who Mayor Bill de Blasio called one of NYC’s Worst Landlords while he was Public Advocate. Incredibly, the City is about to sign a new lease with this “Worst Landlord.”
