Interior Demolition On Ground Floor Of 1016 Cortelyou Road

1016 cortelyou road construction

Thanks to neighbor Jeff Weiskopf for tipping us off about some action in the former Simple Mobile storefront at 1016 Cortelyou Road (between Stratford Road and Coney Island Avenue). When we passed by this afternoon, workers told us they were simply doing demolition, and that there were no plans yet for another tenant to move in.

Neither permit filed with the DOB so far looks like they’re planning to put in restaurant facilities, so we’re guessing 1016 will end up as retail again–and we hope the landlord makes the best use of the exposed brick we saw inside while walking by.

1016 Cortelyou was listed for sale at $1.2 million over the summer, but is no longer on the market. Whatever does move in next will join Bar Chord, Lea, Brooklyn ARTery, Hartwell Vegetarian, The Highbury Pub, and the Stratford corner property that recently sold for $2 million on the block, which was completely different–in several cases, with vacant storefronts–just a year ago.

Assuming you won’t be getting any of the great restaurant suggestions you had for 739 Coney Island Avenue, what kind of retail or other type of commercial space would you like to see at 1016?
