The MTA has announced that the B61 bus service will be adjusted in response to increased demands on the route. From DNAinfo:

During the morning peak hour, there will be one additional peak trip that will reduce waiting time from 9 minutes to 8 minutes.

At the 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. period, two more trips will be added, decreasing the time between buses from 12 minutes to 10 minutes.

The B61 has been notoriously tardy in the past, leaving riders frustrated by the wait. A 2011 study, “Next Bus Please: Improving the B61” found that the bus was often late, as well as overcrowded.

The B61 (a.k.a. “the IKEA bus”) hits Park Slope at 9th Street, and reaches Cobble Hill, Red Hook, and Windsor Terrace, providing local service through Van Brunt Street, Columbia Street, and Atlantic Avenue. The changes will come into action in April 2013.
