Hurricane Sandy Clean Up Effort Underway

A quick glance at our map (which we’ve been updating – please continue to send us photos and details, and we’ll add them) shows how much damage Ditmas Park suffered during Hurricane Sandy. The clean up effort began right away, though, as these photos from neighbor Judd show. A large branch that came down across Argyle between Ditmas and Dorchester was quickly and successfully removed this morning.

Neighbors have also reported seeing the Department of Sanitation in the area working on cleaning up debris, as well as crews already at work on clearing the subway tracks. We even spotted a street sweeper buzz down the block earlier today.

While clean up has begun, it’s far from finished, as the 70th precinct reminds us:

Many trees have fallen and there are live wires down in the neighborhood. Please try not to go out if you don’t need to. Driving around is dangerous. Traffic lights are also out, please use extra caution when crossing the streets. The wind is not as severe as yesterday, but the trees are still vulnerable to falling, as they have been weakened from the storm.
