Holiday Markets, Brooklyn Brainery WT, Art Shows, Music & More This Weekend

Whether you’re hungry for holiday markets, crafty classes, or legendary live music — this is your spot for the hottest weekend events in (and around) Ditmas Park. Brooklyn Brainery Windsor Terrace is now open
Where: 1233 Prospect Avenue between Vanderbilt Street & Reeve Place.
When: Check out their weekend class schedule and more.
What: The Brainery hosts inexpensive, crowdsourced classes on crafty, historic, and culinary topics — now with a Windsor Terrace annex. Explore hobbies like cooking dim sum, charcoal drawing, fiction writing, improv, quirky NYC history, and much more. How Much: inexpensive classes ranging from about $10 to $80 depending on the class and length.

Caribbean Holiday Market
When: Friday, December 2 at 5pm to December 16th.
Where: Caribbeing House, 794 Flatbush Avenue between Caton Avenue & Lenox Road.
What: Shop for unique Caribbean gifts from a curated selection of artisans, while spending the evening immersed in Caribbean culture.
How Much: Priced per item.

Joy Askew, Tyrone Cotton & Julia Patinella at the Owl Music Parlor
When: Friday, December 2 at 8pm (doors at 7:30).
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Come see legendary singer & songwriter Joy Askew play with a brass band; folk-blues artist Tyrone Cotton; and multilingual singer Julia Patinella.
How Much: $10 suggested donation.

PLG Holiday Craft Fair
When: Saturday, December 3 from 5pm to 8pm; plus Saturdays Dec. 10 & 17.
Where: PLG Coffee House & Tavern, 499 Rogers Avenue at Midwood Street.
What: Shop for locally made, handcrafted jewelry, hair products, wood sculptures, greeting cards, knitwear and more this weekend — while enjoying mulled wine, cider, and baked goods.
How Much: Priced per item.

Super Yamba Band at Bar Chord
When: Saturday, December 3 at 10pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1008 Cortelyou Road, between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Come hear a unique blend of West-African Afrobeat and Psychedelic Funk in a lively liver performance.
How Much: Free show, but don’t forget to buy drinks at the bar.

Flatbush Artist’s show & sale in Park Slope
When: Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, 12pm to 6pm.
Where: 502 9th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues.
What: Catch artists from the Flatbush Artists Studio Tour at a salon-style show and holiday art sale in Park Slope. Sixteen local artists will showcase in a brownstone — a perfect way to shop for Christmas gifts and support local artists.
How Much: Priced per item.

The Nutcracker Ballet at Kings Theater
When: Saturday, December 3 at 3pm.
Where: The Kings Theater, 1027 Flatbush Avenue between Tilden Avenue and Duryea Place.
What: The acclaimed Moscow Ballet presents the Great Russian Nutcracker, with a 40-piece company, a 60-foot Christmas tree; elaborate handmade costumes & sets, and more surprises. Great for the whole family.
How Much: Tickets start at $33 and range to $180, get yours here.

Jazz & Blues concert at Soup & Sound in PLG
When: Saturday, December 3 at 8pm.
Where: Soup & Sound, 292 Lefferts Avenue (6th house from Nostrand Avenue)
What: Enjoy tunes by Clayton/Ken Filiano + Milo Tamez with Angie Sanchez at this homey, PLG Jazz & Blues spot. Homemade soup served at 7:30pm, BYOB. Read more about the venue here.

Winter bird tour, nature exploration & more
When: Sunday, December 4 from 8am to 4pm.
Where: Various locations throughout Prospect Park, including the Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House.
What: Don’t let the cold keep you indoors this weekend, check out the 12 birds of winter tour at 8am; nature exploration (10am to 1pm); curiosity corner at the Lefferts Historic House (12pm to 4pm); and more throughout the park. See the full schedule here.

Windsor Terrace Holiday Market
When: Sunday, December 4 from 9am to 3pm.
Where: St. Joseph Academy, 241 Prospect Park West between Prospect Avenue & Windsor Place.
What: This holiday market includes jewelry, clothing, handbags, accessories, candles, chocolates, and a visit from Santa from 11:30am to 2pm.
How Much: Priced per item.

PS 230 Fundraiser at Barnes & Nobles
When: Sunday, December 4 from 9am to 6pm.
Where: Barnes & Nobles, 267 7th Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets.
What: Support local PS 230 while shopping for books at Barnes & Nobles. Mention the fundraiser at checkout and a percentage will go to the school. Also, check out the free storytimes and craft events at the bookstore. You can also use the ID number 11983137 to buy items online from December 4–9.
How much: No extra cost

Dinner & Music with Me & My Wifey at Batata
When: Sunday, December 4 from 6:30pm to 9pm.
Where: Batata Pita Bar, 3021 Fort Hamilton Parkway between East 2nd and East 3rd Streets.
What: Looking for a chill Sunday night dinner and music to wind down from the weekend? Batata presents Brooklyn’s singing & keyboard duo Me and My Wifey. Check out their lovely Joni Mitchell cover here.
How Much: Free entry, but enjoy some Israeli-inspired food while you listen.

Occupy Kensington Immigrant Defense Coalition meeting
When: Sunday, December 4 from 7:30pm to 9pm.
Where: 347 East 5th Street in Kensington
What: Learn from guest activist/attorney from a local radical immigrant defense group, and meet fellow Kensington activists.
