Henri On Fifth Opens Tonight

Henri on Fifth, the new French/German/Asian-inspired restaurant that’s taken over the 5th Avenue corner formerly home to Aperitivo, opens to the public tonight.

The new restaurant at 279 5th Avenue, on the corner of 1st Street, has been working on updates since Aperitivo — which had been in the spot for seven years — abruptly closed at the end of November.

New owner Binh Douglas, who most recently worked as the VP of operations at Beacher’s Madhouse, a variety show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, told Here’s Park Slope that the inspiration for the food comes from his family’s varied backgrounds.

“I’m half Vietnamese, a quarter Native American, and a quarter black, and my wife has a French background, so we decided to name the restaurant after our newborn son, Henri, and the menu is an amalgam of his heritage,” he told HPS.

A menu they posted at the time featured items like sharable grilled cheese “soldiers,” salads, sliders, truffle fries, banh mi tacos, and soups served in steins — basically, the space is aiming to be a fun, affordable place for neighbors to kick back in (case in point, check out the list of board games they’ll have on hand).

Henri on Fifth opens tonight, Friday, January 16 at 7pm. According to their Facebook page, their hours will be Monday-Friday 4pm-2am and Saturday-Sunday 10am-2am, but you may want to call ahead during their first few weeks to double check before heading over. The number is 347-294-4631.
