Help Brooklyn ARTery With Its First-Ever Kite Festival
The folks at Brooklyn ARTery (1021 Cortelyou Road) let us know they’ve launched a fundraising campaign to help get their first-ever Kite Festival at Governor’s Island off the ground, and they need a little extra green to help them with the September 27 event that’ll include kite-making fun, refreshments, and music.
The shop has joined forces with the Brooklyn Kite Fest to put on this event on Governor’s Island, where Brooklyn ARTery has a seasonal store from May through September.
“If you haven’t been to the Island yet, you must come,” Brooklyn ARTery wrote. “What better way to say goodbye to the season than flying a kite in the windy parade grounds?”
Noting that the store is “all about getting folks into making and buying handmade things,” Brooklyn ARTery said that, at the Kite Festival, “you can create your own one-of-a-kind kite, or bring or purchase one there.”

We’re a small “mom and mom” shop so we could really use your your help to defray costs to make this event happen. We have to pay for insurance, kites, signage, refreshments, graphic designer, printing posters , musicians, and more…

• Donate over $50 and get a free Brooklyn Kite Festival T-Shirt
• Donate over $100 and we will give you a free kite at the event * any amount over or under that is also appreciated!!!
The Cortelyou business also said that if you can’t donate, you can volunteer at the event. If you’re able to lend a hand, there are three different time sets during which you can help out – set-up will be from 10-11, the event will be from 11am-4pm, and clean-up will be from 4-5pm.
