Hammy The Cat Needs A Home

Hammy The Cat Needs A Home
Cat to adopt: Hammy

Hammy the cat was found recently by a neighbor on East 2nd Street near Cortelyou. After efforts to find out if he was just lost came up empty, he’s now looking for a forever home.

At about nine months old, the young cat is a “belly rub lovin’ little guy” who has been neutered, vaccinated, and is negative for FIV/FeLV. His head tilts a bit because of some problem with his ear, which is currently being investigated to see if it’s a polyp in his ear canal (which can be removed), or a past head trauma of unknown causes.

Despite that, Kathryn Walton from The America Street Cat (TASC) who is organizing his healthcare — which you can help fund here — and adoption, says Hammy is a happy, normal kitten.

Adopt this kitty: Hammy

“This guy’s quality of life doesn’t at all seem to be compromised,” Kathryn tells us. “Long-term care for him would be no different than for any other feline companion.”

Hammy will be part of a nationwide adoption event called Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days on June 1 and 2. During the event, adoptions are free to adopters, but an adoption subsidy would go to TASC via Maddie’s Fund ($500 for a healthy cat; $1000 for a case like Hammy) which would help cover care for pets like him, as well as TNR (trap-neuter-return) operations that they run.

TASC is looking to pre-qualify adopters, and their pet candidates can even go into new homes before the adoption event as a test fit or as a foster.
