Should You Go To Ditmas Park Or Space For Food? Just Ask Astronaut Garrett Reisman

Garrett Reisman the astronaut

While we were having dinner at Lea on Friday, we soon heard rumblings that there was an astronaut in our midst.

And, lo and behold, the rumors were true! Garrett Reisman, who traveled to space on NASA’s Endeavor in 2008 and was the first Jewish crew member on the International Space Station, was indeed at Lea – and the man who lived in space for three months, did two space walks, showed off his gymnastic skills from space on the Colbert Report, and even made a cameo appearance on the final episode of Battlestar Galactica was kind enough to let us take his photo and entertain a question:

What is the biggest difference between space and Ditmas Park?

“The biggest difference between space and Ditmas Park – I’d say a couple things,” Garrett said. “The food is much better down here – you don’t go to space for the food. The food is awful up there; don’t go for the food. The other thing is there’s a lot more gravity down here. The floating around is way better up there.”

If you want to see some more of Garrett in space, he made these really great video journals of his time there, cataloguing everything from growing an inch taller while in space to eating floating food and what hair cuts are like in microgravity.

It was great to meet you, Garrett – we’d even say it was out of this world!
