Get Ready for a Halloween Frankenstorm

The weather may be about to get a lot worse just in time to rain on our parades. New York City is probably going to be hit with three powerful storms starting Sunday night, peaking on Tuesday and continuing into the middle of the week.

From the south, the already deadly Hurricane Sandy has hit Cuba and Jamaica (pictured above) and is heading north. Overnight, Sandy just experienced a “stunning increase in size and intensity,” reports the Washington Post. An early winter storm is heading toward New York from the west and a blast of arctic air is blowing down from the north. As they meet here, forecasters are expecting gale-force winds, flooding, heavy rain and maybe even snow early next week.

The Weather Channel says that “the magnitude and the exact location of the potential impacts described above are highly uncertain at this time” but stresses that New Yorkers ought to be vigilant and prepared for next week.

Also, the word Snor’eastercane exists if Frankenstorm is not confusing or catchy enough for you.
