Garfield Vs. Carroll: A Tale of Two Block Parties

Garfield Vs. Carroll: A Tale of Two Block Parties

Both Carroll Street and Garfield Street are having their annual block parties this weekend, and — not that it’s a competition — but the heat is ON.

Team Carroll

So, let’s review that, shall we? There is: coffee, breakfast, kids activities (tie-dye! games! art projects!), a sing along, a coconut cocktail contest, a BBQ, an ice cream-eating contest, a bake-off, a pot-luck supper, a movie, and a raffle. Oh, did you think that was everything? Because there’s also morning yoga, an African drumming workshop, and a fire truck.

Team Garfield

At first glance, a lower-key affair: “stop by for hair braiding, tattoos, and more fun stuff.” Who doesn’t love some good old-fashioned fun stuff? But just when they’ve lulled you into a false sense of security, garfield56steering pulls out the big guns. Horse and Pony Rides, 12:00 to 1:00pm. HORSE AND PONY RIDES!

In conclusion, there are some pretty awesome-sounding block parties happening this weekend. In other conclusions, don’t park between 5th and 6th Aves on Garfield (Saturday) or Carroll (Sunday).
