Have a fun night out, spend time with your neighbors, and help support our local public schools. Two area schools are throwing fundraising parties in the next few days, and they are open to the entire community.

If your school is having a fundraiser, please let us know!

PS 217 Annual Spring Fundraiser, Friday, June 3rd
The Friends of PS 217 are hosting their fourth annual Spring fundraiser on Friday, June 3rd at 6:30pm at the home of Mary Kay Seery at 1203 Albemarle Road.

PS 217 is located on Newkirk Avenue at Westminster Road.

The Friends of PS 217 fundraiser is always a great neighborhood event, and we are also going to be honoring Ms. Conti, the school principal who is retiring this year.

There are no tickets to purchase nor any auction. It is simply a party that we throw to celebrate the programs and projects at PS 217 that we support. We ask for donations of any amount at the party, and encourage guests to help us keep PS 217’s arts and enrichment programs thriving for another year.

PS 139 Parent Association Fundraiser at Bar Chord, Monday, June 6
On Monday, June 6, the PS 139 Parent Association invites you to a fun night out at Bar Chord, 1008 Cortelyou Road (between Stratford and Coney Island Avenue), from 6:30 to 8:30.

Live music will be provided by Ibex and special guests. (Over 21 only.)

A suggested donation of $25 provides a free drink and appetizers, and a chance at a great doorprize – a gift certificate from Werkstatt. All proceeds benefit the PS 139 Parent Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports the children and community of PS 139.

If you can’t attend but would like to make a donation, please visit the PS 139 Parent Association website.

Free child care will be provided at Ezra Guitar, just around the corner at 785 Coney Island Avenue. Advance registration is required.

Located at Cortelyou and Rugby, PS 139 provides an outstanding education to 1,040 children representing over 20 different languages and cultures, from Albanian to Pakistani. Twenty percent are English-language learners. Seventy-four percent are entitled to free lunch. Virtually all live within a few blocks of the school. All of them are avid learners, and thrive when given the opportunity to join a math club, play trombone, make paper mâché sculptures, take a trip to a community theater, plant vegetables, or borrow books from a well-stocked classroom library.

PS 139 students become chess masters, community gardeners, college graduates, civic-minded citizens and so much more. But we need help to make these opportunities possible. A donation to the Parent Association of PS 139 will allow us to replace broken instruments for music classes and after-school clubs, provide family members with translation services and skill-building workshops, subsidize school partnerships with youth theater groups, artists, musicians, and community-based organizations, expand classroom libraries to support independent reading, and supply teachers with school materials that families can’t afford to provide.
